Winnipeg Optimist Athletics

Outdoor 2024 has ended. In a few weeks, a new season will begin and with it, new hopes, new dreams, and renewed vigor. Good luck!

Indoor

This page will list the indoor meets and information about them; if you have any questions about whether the meet is a club meet or a high school meet and who is responsible for the registration process, this is the place to find that out.

Brown & Gold Classic

This meet is the home opener inter-squad for the Bisons and is open to Bison athletes only.

George Tanner Classic

This is the first meet of the indoor season for the club. The club covers costs; let your coach know if you are attending. He will register you.  All may compete.

Athletics Manitoba Last Chance

Called the Last Chance because it is the last chance to compete before moving up an age category at the beginning of the year for some athletes. The club covers costs; let your coach know if you are attending…. he will register you. All may compete.

Bison Grand Prix #1

Hosted by University of Manitoba Bisons, this is a “half  meet” (half the events of a full meet) where all can compete.  The club covers costs; let your coach know if you are attending. He will register you.

High School Series #1

This meet is open to high school students of registered schools only (or individuals who contact the Athletics Manitoba office).  You wear your school uniform, not your club uniform. Your school covers the cost of registration.

Track Attack #1

This meet is open to junior high students of registered schools only (or individuals who contact the Athletics Manitoba office).  You wear your school uniform, not your club uniform. Your school covers the cost of registration.

Winnipeg Optimists Athletics Winter Open

Hosted by our club, this meet is open to all athletes. The club covers costs; let your coach know if you are attending. He will register you.  We will need parent volunteers to run this meet, as we are hosting it. All may compete.  Parents are needed as volunteers. It is open to people who train regularly at Max Bell only.

High School Series #2

This meet is open to high school students of registered schools only (or individuals who contact the Athletics Manitoba office).  You wear your school uniform, not your club uniform. Your school covers the cost of registration.

Track Attack #2

This meet is open to junior high students of registered schools only (or individuals who contact the Athletics Manitoba office).  You wear your school uniform, not your club uniform. Your school covers the cost of registration.

Bison Classic

Hosted by the University of Manitoba Bisons, participants in the meet include university athletes from across Western Canada and Lakehead in Thunder Bay.  As well, top local athletes are allowed to compete, where appropriate. The club covers costs; let your coach know if you are attending…. he will register you.

High School Series #3

This meet is open to high school students of registered schools only (or individuals who contact the Athletics Manitoba office).  You wear your school uniform, not your club uniform. Your school covers the cost of registration.

Regina Indoor Games

Historically, we have driven or taken a bus to Regina for this meet.  Look for information to come out in December or early January from Wayne.  Historically, costs have been around $150, which include travel, hotel, and entries.

Simplot Games

The Simplot Games will be held in February at Idaho State University’s Holt Arena.  All may compete, however the cost would be prohibitive.  There is good news for the select few who complete a resume and write a letter of interest and are selected,  Simplot will take up to ten athletes from Manitoba all expenses paid (maybe not food, maybe food… I can’t remember). to Pocatello, Idaho for the meet.

High School Series #4

This meet is open to high school students of registered schools only (or individuals who contact the Athletics Manitoba office).  You wear your school uniform, not your club uniform. Your school covers the cost of registration.

CanWest Championships

The University of Saskatchewan is hosting the western Canadian universities at the CanWest Championships.  This meet will select qualifiers for U-Sports Championships to go with the auto-qualifiers.

Boeing Indoor Classic

Our club hosts this meet and it is the Manitoba Indoor Championships.  We need significant volunteer help from parents and it is mandatory to put in time to be part of the club.  Athletes come in from Lakehead, Dryden, Saskatchewan to race at this meet. The club covers costs; let your coach know if you are attending. He will register you.  All can compete.  Parents are needed as volunteers.

U-Sports Championships

This is the ultimate track and field meet on the Canadian university scene and you must be a member of the U of M Bisons and have a qualifying standard or ranking.

High School Series Championship

This meet is the culmination of the high school indoor season.  Only those who qualify from the High School Series #1 – #4 may compete.  You wear your school uniform, not your club uniform.

Track Attack #4

This is the final meet in the Track Attack series.  It is open to junior high students of registered schools only (or individuals who contact the Athletics Manitoba office).  You wear your school uniform, not your club uniform. Your school covers the cost of registration.
